Where to Get Your Down Dog On Miami Yogis

Ahh, Miami. A very sunny place filled with shady people. We love this city and you should, too.

With that being said, we don't necessarily love all of the yoga happening around the 305. But this post isn't about those we loathe, it is about those we love - so if we don't have anything nice to say about you, we just won't say anything at all.

Without further adieu, presented in alphabetical order, this is where you can find us ass up in down dog this season:

Ayama Yoga: Giving Ayama Yoga in Aventura the endorsement before actually going there.

Ayama Yoga
Mano's 6:30* pm class on Wednesday has been on our hit list for a while. We've got quite a few mutual friends and we really, really have been meaning to take a class from him, so this season we're going to make it happen and hopefully write a proper studio review.

Plus, he's got really pretty eyes.

*And by "6:30 pm" we actually mean 6:15 pm - thank you Kristina for the catch :)

Corpo Yoga: Oh, Corpo Yoga in South Miami! How do we love you? Let us count the ways... Number one: Kelly Brandon. Seriously. Her Sunday class is so much freaking fun. The basic elements of Ashtanga with so. much. room. for us to play around.

We've busted more advanced moves in her class in one session than anywhere else at any other time. She's warm, sweet and funny. Her music doesn't suck. She doesn't suck. The only downside is that it's a little bit of a trek for us because we live on the beach, but if you're in the Dadeland hood go to her class immediately.

Corpo is also one of our favorite (if not our favorite) studios as far as decor goes. If we had a yoga studio it would look very much like this one. Love the electric wind chime machine. We've searched high and low for one of our own (they're discontinued).

Kelly isn't the only draw, they've got a pretty banging line-up of instructors. Go there now.

Miami Life Center: When we first moved to Miami, we couldn't figure out why in the hell everyone was jumping around like a bunch of idiots. We had only practiced Sivananda yoga so the jump through transition was foreign to us.

Patrick Nolan - Miami Life Center
Well, now we're one of those idiots jumping around looking and sounding like an elephant (hey - we're not perfect). We really like the half primary and full primary classes for a few reasons.

One: We know exactly what we're getting into and know it's going to be challenging.

Two: It's no nonsense. We don't want to be at the mercy of whatever trip the yoga teacher is on. We do not care about the billboard that "inspired" you on your way to class today. We want to do yoga and we want you to shut up. Thank you for providing this service Miami Life Center.

Love Patrick Nolan. Love Tim Feldmann. Miss Julia. Wish Kino still gave classes to the laypeople of Miami. Looking forward to taking classes from Daylene Christensen and William Duprey. If we could have Kombucha beers with the staff of one yoga studio, this would be the one.

Skanda Studio Pooch
Skanda Yoga: Ken von Roenn III at Skanda Yoga has never really been overly nice to us. It's part of his charm. Maybe it's because when we go there we usually smell and look like a rancid sack of hungover booze, or maybe it's that hole my (now ex) significant other kicked in his wall during a failed handstand attempt, either way we still go.

GREAT BLUE ELECTRIC MOON!! We love Skanda Yoga's tweets!! Most of the time we have no idea what they're talking about but we don't care!! Just go with it!!

Plus, they have a really cute studio dog named Shanti. We like studio dogs. Good people have good dogs. This is another great studio that is a little out of our radius of convenience but is worth the journey. Be there or be square.

Synergy Yoga SoBe: The oldest studio on Miami Beach, located on the beyond charming Española Way has to have a place on this list.

Synergy SoBe
Even though this pisses us off on a daily basis, this makes us want to gouge our own eyes out and this yoga studio "commercial" left us totally speechless... Well, there is some saving grace. Our dear, dear friend Sadhu runs Kundalini in this space and we're always meaning to take Mateo's class.

What we do love about Synergy Yoga is the space. You can feel the yoga in the walls there. We took an amazing workshop with Bhagavan Das at Synergy SoBe that changed us at our core - you have not lived until you've had Bhagavan Das screaming at you, "YOU WANNA TRIP OUT?!?! TRIP IN!!!".

Thank you for the awesome pre-review, but if you show up to Mano's class at 6:30 his pretty eyes will be glaring at you cause you're 15 minutes late (also a spectacular sight) ;) So come say hi at 6:15 and let us show you a good time
