We were there today for John Friend's final class before he takes "the next few months" off for reasons you already know. During the opening of the session, in a very brief display of emotion, he vaguely addressed his current situation and the fact that this would be the last class he'd be teaching for a while.
And that's basically it. He was overall positive and upbeat without seeming obnoxious or egotistical. It was a solid workshop. He did a pretty brilliant job of tying in the upcoming Mahashivaratri into his current situation, while still being vague and not giving any specific details other than he was going to "go into the dark" for a while before he comes back out into the light.
Our prediction? He's probably going to come back bigger than ever. We know, we didn't think we'd be saying it either but the guy has that certain je ne sais quoi that got him to where he is in the first place.
It's either that, or the Wiccan spell he cast on us during the silent meditation at the end of the session. Oh yeah, and we're starting to sober up from the bottomless Mimosa lunch we had, so we don't have much zing in us right now.
Plus, Wanderlust is still headlining him. Another prediction? His big comeback will be Wanderlust this summer.
Just two mild WTF moments from today - the very intimate "Om Namah Shivaya" story he told. The one where his mother told him it meant, "you are a good boy, John", and how it's been his prayer for the past forty years? Cute or creepy? You decide.
Also, this pyramid. Why did people keep coming up and sitting in it? By the look on this girl's face, it obviously doesn't make you happy. Time travelers?? Witches!! Burn them at the stake!!
