Eat to Live & Live to Eat at Basil Park in Sunny Isles

We've been hearing through the yogi grapevine that there's a place in Sunny Isles that will satisfy both hardcore vegans and meat eaters, alike.

We found this hard to believe. After weeks of hint dropping and nudging to the better half of Namaste Miami, we finally made the voyage to Basil Park last night in Sunny Isles.

Our compass is forever now pointed in their direction.

Raw Vegan options = true. Healthy vegetarian options = true. Options for those who crave the flesh and blood of living creatures = true.

True, true, true. When we say go here now, we mean GO HERE NOW THIS PLACE IS FRICKIN' AMAZE-FALAFEL BALLS!!!

Our haul included the sprouted falafel, tuna tiradito, mussels and local fish tacos. Our cups runneth over with Malbac & a white we can't remember the name of... full menu here.

YOGA + SPA + GARDEN DINNER at The Palms Hotel

Your Wednesday evenings just got booked for the rest of the summer.

The Palms Hotel in Miami Beach is now having midweek yoga sessions followed by food harvested from the in-house restaurant, Essensia's, garden.

Oh, and did we mention that it also happens to be Miami Spa Month? Make an entire evening of it by selecting a spa service from their menu.

This just sounds delightful. One Total Body Rejuvenation? Yes, please! Holy, Gomukhasana - a Warm Oil Infusion Scalp Massage?? That's more action than we've seen in years!!

I wonder if they can perform that one if you have massive dreads? Thoughts?

Summer's Finale: The Full Blue Moon

The original title of this post was "The Full Blue Moon Doeth Cometh". Then, we were wondering if it was "Doth Cometh"?

After Googling way too long for the proper usage (it's a dead language - COME ON!!) and realizing that the lesser educated would probably just think we made a huge typo all together, we ditched it.

Maybe it's that 20-hour Game of Thrones marathon we were addicted to during Hurricane Isaac and our desire to be A LORD WHO CAN ACCOMPLISH WITH WORDS WHAT SWORDS CANNOT but we really, really need a reality (and sanity) check.

When we first came across the trailer for Kumaré we couldn't help but laugh out loud.

It wouldn't hurt every single yogi/spiritual seeker to watch this flick (or at least the trailer!) and then take a good. hard. look. at their own teachers. Just saying.

In Kumaré: The True Story of a False Prophet, filmmaker Vikram Gandhi seeks to explore the question of human spirituality by impersonating a "wise Indian Guru" named Kumaré. We're assuming a wide range of emotion (hilarity!) ensues. See below for the movie trailer.

We remember the exact moment our idolization of yoga teachers was shattered. We were in the Kinko's on Alton Road about six years ago when a certain Jivamukti teacher came in having a nervous breakdown on her cell phone. She was screaming so loudly that the bindi flew off of her forehead. You know who you are. Freak.

My First Bikram Yoga Class: A Memoir

"The heat really doesn't bother me."

Those were the last words I remember saying as we filed into the warm studio.

I positioned myself behind my friend who had dragged me to the class. I noticed an unattractive man rolling around in a pair of purple American Apparel briefs.

I stuck to my mat like an island - visions of all of the bacteria that must be in this carpet danced in my mind. I took a deep breath, mentally telling myself that it was ok, and I was not going to catch a flesh eating disease from this studio. Surely they clean it.
