'May I Be Happy' Signing at Books & Books in the Gables

There are yoga teachers, and then there are yoga teachers. Cyndi Lee is a yoga teacher. We're talking household name status.

So, it is with great pleasure that we welcome her to Books & Books in Coral Gables for a signing of her memoir, 'MAY I BE HAPPY: A Memoir of Love, Yoga and Changing My Mind' on Thursday, September 18th at 8pm.

It is our yogic duty to show up and support one of the founders of what we know as "yoga" today. We completely agree with B&B's statement:

"Few yoga teachers have connected with their students on the level of Cyndi Lee, who, in her prolific career, has completely redefined what it means to be a teacher in modern yoga culture."

Be there or be square, yogis. Namaste.

Become Buddhist + Vegan at Books & Books

First of all, let's get one thing very clear: we love Books & Books.

From their amazing café that boasts some of the most delicious and healthy food in the 305 to their expertly curated selection of books... we just cannot say enough.

Cue their amazing lecture and event series. This week you can not only learn the 101 of becoming Buddhist, you can also get the 411 on making a vegan lifestyle do-able.

This Thursday (08/16) Master Chufei Tsai (of Zen Village) will be conducting a class on the basics of Buddhism. To put it bluntly,

"If you’re curious about Buddhism but feel intimidated by all the exotic jargon and strange trappings, this class is for you."

The Buddha Walks Into a Bar... with Lodro Rinzler

Author Lodro Rinzler will be in Miami next week promoting his book, The Buddha Walks Into a Bar. He will have a signing at Books & Books in the Gables Wednesday night, followed by another signing/party at The Standard on Thursday night.

We thought The Standard party sounded like a pretty decent time ($30 gets you admission for two, a signed copy of the book and 2 Day Passes to the spa) and then this part of the author's bio caught our eye:

"When he left for college he received two heirlooms from his parents. From his father, a mala which he had used to recite mantras. From his mother, her father's flask. He utilized both greatly in the four years ahead."

Sold. Not only do we already love this guy, we think we might be related to him. If we could sum up our college experience in four sentences, those would be them.  More about the book:

Develop Your Psychic Powers with... Who?

Dwarkananda - aka Juan Meza
Swami Dwarkananda is going to be in town this weekend, first giving a workshop on developing your psychic powers at Books & Books in the Gables on Friday night, then doing a workshop at Rina Yoga.

I received an email about the Books & Books workshop a few weeks ago and it caught my eye that he studied with Yogi Gupta - the same Guru of Dharma Mittra. Seriously considering going, I googled Dwarkananda.

Nothing comes up on him. No prior workshops before Miami, the only other thing I came across was an upcoming teacher training in Tampa in August. Who the heck is this guy?

When I went to link to the calendar post from Books & Books, the URL gave it away:

AHA!! Juan Meza. Google stalking "Juan Meza Yoga" answered my question. (You have to throw "yoga" in there because "Juan Meza" is also the name of a famous boxer). Anyway, my dectective work stopped there because that's about as long as my attention span is today. Google results here if you'd like to learn more.
